Today in the morning, at 5:30 am, I lost someone with whom I did not talk for years, but who was crucially significant in my past.

I received a call from a common friend that cut my sleep with disbelief - he died in his prime, out of the blue, alone, and estranged from some who still cared.

It took me hours of thinking and communicating with many to arrive at full comprehension of what had happened and what it meant. The heavy rain replaced my tears at times. The darkness of the day evoked the sunken lives I dissolved in new layers of dulled tragedies on a sunnier continent. Resuscitation impossible, potential abandoned, last words forsaken.

It is so painful. A new sorrow seemed impossible, yet here it is: too early, too forever, into the black.
