All about fruitarianism with a long-term fruitarian, Lena

Environment

The natural world as affected by human activity, the surroundings or conditions in which a people, animals, or plants live, habitat.

  • Benjamin Franklin

My refusing to eat flesh occasioned an inconveniency, and I was frequently chided for my singularity, but, with this lighter repast, I made the greater progress, for greater clearness of head and quicker comprehension. Flesh eating is unprovoked murder.

  • Mahatma Gandhi

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.

  • Isaac Bashevis Singer

When a human kills an animal for food, he is neglecting his own hunger for justice. Man prays for mercy, but is unwilling to extend it to others.

  • Isaac Bashevis Singer

What do they know-all these scholars, all these philosophers, all the leaders of the world - about such as you? They have convinced themselves that man, the worst transgressor of all the species, is the crown of creation. All other creatures were created merely to provide him with food, pelts, to be tormented, exterminated.

  • Declaration on Consciousness

On July 7, 2012, a prominent international group of scientists - cognitive neuroscientists, neuropharmacologists, neurophysiologists, neuroanatomists and computational neuroscientists - gathered at The University of Cambridge to reassess the neurobiological substrates of conscious experience and related behaviors in human and non-human animals

    The Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness:

The absence of a neocortex does not appear to preclude an organism from experiencing affective states. Convergent evidence indicates that non-human animals have the neuroanatomical, neurochemical, and neurophysiological substrates of conscious states along with the capacity to exhibit intentional behaviors. Consequently, the weight of evidence indicates that humans are not unique in possessing the neurological substrates that generate consciousness. Nonhuman animals, including all mammals and birds, and many other creatures, including octopuses, also possess these neurological substrates.

  • Richard Dawkins

I'd like everybody to be a vegetarian... In 100 or 200 years time, we may look back on the way we treated animals today as something like we today look back on the way our forefathers treated slaves.

  • To Selfishness by Mexie Mermaid

This is an exchange of comments about ideas expressed in a video by Mexie Mermaid "Have Nothing, Give Everything. [Buddhism and Selfishness]"

    Fruitarian Lena:

I wonder about your sources for the base idea of selfishness. It sounds like popularized nonsense (sorry, I like your channel, and expect more :)

So, all people who save money for their future or business, are selfish?! I don't know people who don't want to give anything of theirs for anything.

Do you know a bit from history, what happens when property rights are not respected? And what on Earth "patriarchy" has to do with it?

  • Climate Change and Food Security

Climate change further threatens food security through its impact on global food production and consequently on food prices. With growing populations and higher demand for food, the impact of climate change could result in an increase of 20% of people at risk of chronic hunger.

  • Blue Iridescent Fruits without Pigment

Blue iridescent berry, no blue pigment

Blue African fruit of a plant plant Pollia condensata contains no blue pigment. The blue and its iridescent shine are caused by a Bragg reflection - intense peaks of light generated at certain wavelengths and angles - created by spirally stacked cellulose fibers that form multiple layers in the fruit's skin.

  • Banana Industry Environmental Impact

The banana industry is dominated by 5 international companies. When bananas are grown on a large monocultural scale, thousands of tonnes of toxic pesticides are poured on the plantations often sprayed from planes overhead. Five of the chemicals used on bananas are classified as extremely hazardous by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Banana bunches are often wrapped on the tree with pesticide-coated plastic bags for protection.

Linus Pauling

I have something that I call my Golden Rule. It goes something like this: 'Do unto others twenty-five percent better than you expect them to do unto you.' … The twenty-five percent is for error.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants - substances that may prevent or delay some types of cell damage. Examples of antioxidants include beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene, selenium, vitamins A, C and E.

Vegetables and fruits are rich sources of antioxidants. There is good evidence that eating a diet with lots of vegetables and fruits is healthy and lowers risks of certain diseases. But it isn't clear whether this is because of the antioxidants, something else in the foods, or other factors. Most clinical studies of antioxidant supplements have not found them to provide substantial health benefits.
